This Côtes du Rhône is not your typical run of the mill CDR. The front label itself is not traditional.
Jean-David believes in bringing the best out of the vine by not using any pesticides, herbicides or chemicals. Being certified organic since 1987, he is not the new kid on the block. His domaine is located in Séjuret, a Côtes du Rhône Village appellation. Their 17ha of vineyards are terraced and just about everything is done by hand. I was dining in the small tucked away village of Séjuret when I first came across this wine. Drink local right? It was cooling off and I wanted red wine wine to go with my duck breast. Not knowing label/producer, I assumed it was a fairly ripe classic CDR blend. I was wrong. It was fresh and had tons of acid yet stayed true with the classic garrigue qualities you get with a CDR. Plenty of fruit but not overripe. Very refreshing after a hot day in the Rhône. Blend: Grenache 58%, Carignan 16%, Counoise 11%, Syrah 10%, Cinsault & Mourvèdre 5%. Minimal sulfur is used.
