A Fixin Value

This is a wine I usually purchase every year. It is approachable at a young age and also a great price for a single site in Burgundy. Domaine Philippe Livera crafts wines from some of the northern Appellations in the Côte de Nuits: Gevrey-Chambertin, Marsannay and Fixin. Damien Livera is the 4th generation winemaker from the Livera family. The estate vineyard ‘En Olivier’ is at the top of the slope in Fixin in the Côte de Nuits. These rustic reds are from 50 year old vines with a mix of limestone and clay. After fermentation the wine is aged in French oak. Mostly older oak. The Domaine only uses about 25% new oak barrels. After decanting these wines are approachable at a young age but can also age well. They are structured with firm tannins and good acidity. Notes of raspberries, damp earth, black pepper and anise. A classic match for a beef bourguignon.
